Thesis Sentence

Thesis should include the following:
Statement of topic
Statement of opinion / something to debate / something to prove
Statement could / should use the three prong idea (as a teaching tool until they are ready for more advanced structures)
If and / or when students are "past" this, they could be / should be weened from the 3-prong structure.
BUT...if they cannot stay organized, students may want to stick with the 3 prong.
Examples
The atomic bomb should have been dropped on Japan at the end of World War II because of a...., b......, and c......
The internement of the Japanese-Americans under Executive Order 9066 was appropriate / inappropriate due to a....., b....., and c......

Paragraph should follow the 8- or 11-sentence basic structure
Pattern should be point-evidence-analysis
Conclusion Paragraph

Should begin with a reworded restatement of the thesis sentence
Move from specific to general
Move from opinion to factual
NOT just an inversion of the intro paragraph
Ends with a final sentence that provides a sense of closure for the reader
Does NOT end with "what do you think?" silliness
